__SOCKING THE OCTOPUS

Central High. Ga. 2011

Narrator, Hannah, is on a mission to finish writing a play
based on the idiom “Socking the Octopus.” Pointless?
Perhaps. Impossible? Possibly. Her friends, the intellectual
Isabel and the imaginative Darrin are helping… when they
aren’t arguing, or worse yet, flirting. Unlikely characters
including a narcoleptic mermaid, an anthropomorphic octopus, and dead king doomed to roll a rock
up a hill, are only complicating matters. Or are they actually helping? Quick comedic scenes
explore the trivial yet trying tasks that all teens must tackle from managing schoolwork to
mastering video games to maintaining multiple friendships.
Socking the Octopus is strangely satisfying and satisfyingly strange!
14 to 20 roles (Flexible) 25-30 minutes
